Ruth González Poncela Mi amiga Carmen siempre quiso ser abogada. Por eso a nadie le resultaba inquietante que desde niña acudiera a los bailes de disfraces con una toga y un birrete que le había cosido su madre.
Sin embargo, la vida la llevó por otros derroteros y tardó bastantes años en cumplir su sueño. Pasados los cuarenta, rebosante de ilusiones, inició su andadura como letrada del turno de oficio. Su leitmotiv, empatizar con sus defendidos y pelear por sus derechos contra viento y marea. En cierta ocasión, tras realizar una visita en un centro penitenciario, me dijo con tristeza que aquel chico era buena gente pero delinquir era para él simple cuestión de supervivencia.
En el décimo aniversario del ejercicio profesional y tras cotejar las vicisitudes de todo y de todos, incluidas las suyas propias, cerró el despacho, vendió su casa y se fue a navegar. Posiblemente termine escribiendo sus memorias.
