Entonces ella, una preciosa e inquietante joven, se acomodó a mi lado para acariciarme la mano. Yo, quizás por deformación profesional, me aparté y agarré mis pertenencias, porque la amabilidad es el maquillaje de quien pretende delinquir.
—Soy la hija del matrimonio que chocó contra tu mujer —se identificó—. Tú eres el abogado que se preocupó de garantizar tanto la culpabilidad de mi alcohólico padre como mi bienestar posterior.
Sin documentos para cotejar aquello, en sus ojos reconocí a la huérfana adolescente del juicio. Aferré su mano y ya no la solté.
Parece que fue ayer. Ella me pidió formalizar nuestra relación y hoy luce de radiante blanco. Se acerca a mí y, como hace diez años, intento ponerme una coraza. La derriban sus palabras:
—¿Me concedes este baile, papá?
